Falguni Nayar- Nykaa

Falguni Nayar was born on 19 February in 1963 into a Gujarati family in the land of bollywood, Mumbai. Falguni Nayar experienced a great transition from her job in the finance industry at the equity brokerage Kotak securities until 2012 to her position as the founder of Nykaa, one of India’s leading e-commerce brand. 

Falguni has pursued B.Com from Sydenham College  of Commerce and Economics and a PG (postgraduate) from IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Ahmedabad by 1985.

Falguni Nayar decided to take the giant leap of establishing her own venture in 2009 and went on to find Nykaa in 2012. 

Under the parent organization FSN, Nykaa is one of India’s leading lifestyle and beauty e-commerce brands. Nykaa sells its extensive range of products through mobile applications, its website and even through offline outlets (over 100). 

Falguni has managed to evolve Nykaa into one of India’s much loved and renowned e-commerce platforms by 2013 with the help of her daughter. 

Nykaa managed to achieve the unicorn status in 2020 under the flagship of Falguni and was the first brand to acquire the title of a unicorn under the leadership of a woman.

Falguni even managed to secure the 89th position in the Forbes lift of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women in 2022 and the 44th position on India’s 100 Richest List. 

Falguni Nayar currently holds an estimated net worth of USD 300 Crores. 

 

Ghazal Alagh- Mamaearth

Ghazal Alagh was born on 2 September 1988 in Chandigarh. Ghazal acquires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications from Punjab University and has completed a Summer Intensive Course in Modern Art in Design and Applied Arts and an Intensive Course in Figurative art at the New York Academy of Art.

Ghazal commenced her entrepreneurial journey by co-finding Mamaearth in 2016 with her husband, Varun Alagh with the goal to offer safe skincare products for both babies and their mothers. 

This venture was driven by the passion to fill a market gap with their self experience as parents.

While Mamaearth focuses more towards their impact than profits, Mamaearth still has managed to be extremely fruitful. Ghazal has managed to build a renowned brand with reliability and recognition through inclusivity and sustainability. 

Mamaearth is a D2C brand, offering a toxin-free range of products including hair care, body care and baby care products. 

Mamaearth became the first startup to acquire the title of a unicorn in 2022.

Ghazal also received the award for the Best Brand of the Year in 2018-2019 and was also enlisted under the Forty Under Forty Achievers of India in 2019 alongside an Super StartUps Asia Award. 

Ghazal Alagh currently acquires an estimated net worth of INR 9800 Crores.

Richa Kar- Zivame

Born on 17th July in 1980 in Jamshedpur, Richa Kar is the woman who revolutionized the lingerie shopping experience in India  by commencing Zivame in 2011. Despite a range of hurdles, Richa managed to make Zivame a success. 

Richa Kar finished her graduation from BITS (Birla Institute of Technology and Science) Pilani in 2002. She went on to work in the IT field before acquiring a postgraduate diploma from SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS). 

Hebrew for “radiant me”, Zivame is an e-commerce brand offering an extensive range of lingerie products including, bralettes, panties, nightwear, activewear, shapewear and swimwear in around 50 brands with 100 sizes and 5,000 patterns. 

As of 2023, Richa Kar acquires a net worth of INR 750 Crores.

Vandana Luthra- VLCC

Vanda Luthra was born on 12 July, 1959 in Kolkata and founded VLCC in 1989, pioneering holistic health and wellness solutions that stir modern techniques with traditional Indian recipes. 

Vandana Luthra completed her graduation from the Polytechnic for Women in New Delhi and later went on to gain expertise in Nutrition, food, skin care and beauty in Europe. 

Under the leadership of a powerful woman like Vnadana Luthra, VLCC has experienced swift expansions and has also managed to empower fellow women through its franchise model. 

VLCC offers an extensive range of products including bleach, facial kits, lotions, sunscreen and much more!

Vineeta Singh- SUGAR COSMETICS

Born in 1983 in Anand, Gujarat, Vineeta Singh commenced her entrepreneurial journey through Sugar Cosmetics in 2012 with the goal of redefining the cosmetics landscape in the country. Vineeta suffered a range of obstacles including multiple failed ventures, but managed to make Sugar Cosmetics a success through her resilience. 

Vineeta Singh pursued engineering from IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Madras and later went on to pursue MBA from IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Ahmedabad. 

Vineeta also pursued a three month internship at the Deutsche Bank, London and New Work after the completion of her degree in Mba. She’s also completed a 3 month internship in ITC Limited, Kolkata.

Vineeta Singh turned down a job opportunity with a hefty stipend of INR 1 Cr per annum, as she had a greater vision of offering affordable and high quality cosmetics to the women of India.

Sugar Cosmetics achieved profitability in 2014 and since then has been on an unstoppable journey by offering products both online and in over 10,000 retail stores offline PAN India. 

Vineeta Singh acquires an estimated net worth of INR 300 Crores.
