How many times have you called a company’s customer support and just…given up halfway? Long hold music, a bot that doesn’t get your accent, and somehow you still end up typing “agent” seventeen times. Yeah, that’s the exact problem Bolna AI decided to fix.
Founded in 2024 by Maitreya Wagh and Prateek Sachan, Bolna is building what’s basically the missing piece of India’s AI voice puzzle, a platform that lets businesses build, deploy and run human-like voice AI agents that actually understand how Indians talk.
Not just English, not just proper accents but the real, messy, multilingual, code-switching India.
And the timing checks out. India sees over a billion calls a day, with roughly 30% of them being business-related, including support, sales, collections, recruitment, you name it.
That’s a massive chunk of everyday business still stuck on old-school IVR systems and overworked call centre teams.
From a handful of calls a day to now processing hundreds of thousands, Bolna’s growth curve has been kind of unreal for a company that’s barely two years old.
In this blog, we’ll delve into the story of Bolna and its founders.
About Bolna AI
In simple terms, Bolna is a Voice AI Orchestration platform built specifically for Indian enterprises. Instead of businesses having to stitch together speech-to-text, language models, and text-to-speech themselves, Bolna handles all of it in one place, so companies can build and launch voice AI agents fast, without needing an in-house AI team.
One thing that sets it apart is that instead of relying on one single AI model for everything, Bolna routes each call to whichever model works best for that specific language, use case, and call condition.
Which basically means a business can switch between, say, Hindi and Tamil calls within hours instead of waiting weeks for a custom build.
The platform currently supports more than 10 Indian vernacular languages and is built to actually hold up in real-world telephony conditions, which include noisy backgrounds, patchy lines, thick regional accents, the works. That’s a big deal, because most voice AI tools sound great in a demo and then completely fall apart on an actual customer call.
Bolna AI is Bengaluru-based, but it’s not playing small as it already serves clients across more than 10 countries, though India remains its core focus.
Their customer list includes names like Varun Beverages, Spinny, and Snabbit, spanning industries like e-commerce, BFSI, logistics, recruitment, and education.
Meet the Founders
Bolna’s journey wouldn’t be what it is today without the vision of its founders. Let’s take a quick gander at the brains behind the brand!
- Maitreya Wagh
Maitreya Wagh studied at IIT Delhi, then started his career as an Associate Consultant at Bain & Company, where he spent a couple of years in management consulting. After that, he moved into a Founder’s Office / Entrepreneur-in-Residence role at Probo, India’s opinion trading platform.
While at Probo, he saw up close how fast-growing companies struggled to scale customer communication and that exact gap is what pushed him to start Bolna in 2024, alongside Prateek Sachan.
Today, Maitreya serves as Co-Founder and CEO of Bolna AI.
- Prateek Sachan
Originally from Lucknow, Prateek Sachan studied at IIT Delhi before going on to work with some of India’s most successful tech companies, including Zomato and BrowserStack. Along the way, he also picked up experience at places like Tata 1mg and Atlassian, building and scaling infrastructure for high-growth platforms.
When large language models started taking off around 2023, Prateek saw a real opportunity in voice AI and got fascinated by how AI could genuinely transform the way people communicate. That curiosity, paired with Maitreya’s operator experience, is what led the two of them to start Bolna in 2024.
Today, Prateek serves as Co-Founder and CTO of Bolna AI.
What Does Bolna AI Offer?
Bolna is a Voice AI Orchestration platform built specifically for Indian enterprises, meaning it handles the entire messy backend of running voice AI, so businesses don’t have to build it themselves from scratch.
Companies can build and deploy Voice AI Agents directly from their transcripts and FAQs, letting them start automating calls almost immediately instead of waiting weeks.
Instead of locking into one AI model for everything, Bolna routes each call to whichever model performs best for that specific language, use case, and calling condition.
The platform currently supports more than 10 Indian vernacular languages and is designed to actually hold up in real-world conditions, including noisy environments, patchy calls, and thick regional accents included.
On the enterprise side, businesses get full control over their agent’s intelligence, tone, and workflows, cost-efficient smart routing across providers, and enterprise-grade performance on latency, interruptions, and multi-accent understanding.
And the use cases are wide including everything from customer support and sales to collections, recruitment, and education. Their client list already includes names like Varun Beverages, Spinny, and Snabbit, and the platform is currently handling a massive volume of calls every single day.
Bolna AI’s Funding Journey
Bolna has raised a total of USD 6.92 million across three funding rounds to date. The first round came through on November 5, 2024, and the most recent was a Seed round, which closed on January 20, 2026, with seven investors participating.
In total, the startup counts eight institutional investors in its corner.
Afterword
Bolna’s basically two founders who noticed businesses drowning in calls they couldn’t handle, and just went and fixed it. It has indeed paid off fast, with solid backers, real paying customers, and daily call volumes that have shot up massively in under two years. Voice AI in India still has a long way to go, but Bolna’s already positioning itself as one of the names leading that shift!
