Vending Machine Cost & Investment in India [Oct’24]

Hello everyone, In this blog post, we are going to talk about the Vending Machine Cost & Investment that is required to start a vending machine business in India.

The unpredictability of life was on full display during the COVID-19 outbreak which forced us to adapt as a society. The importance of unmanned retail and vending machines has never been more significant than now. Vending machines are going to be extremely useful in the future.

As the times are changing, more and more people want to own their own businesses and this, in turn, has led to a rise in the number of entrepreneurs and business owners, all around the world but especially in India.

Vending machine businesses have time and again proved to be very profitable for business owners. They are one of the best businesses to be a part of due to their low-risk nature and the low costs involved.

What is the investment required?

Unlike other food businesses like restaurants, cafes, food trucks, etc. The vending machine business is not as investment intensive.

A restaurant has a lot of initial costs. Costs like rent of the place where it is being set up, salaries of the staff, cost of raw materials, cost of electricity for all the electronic equipment being used and many more.

A vending machine, on the other hand, has an initial cost of around INR 1.5-2 lakhs only.

There are 2 types of Vending Machine costs: One-time and Monthly Recurring Payments

Let us discuss both of these costs in more detail.

One-Time Investment:

It includes 2 things: Vending Machine Cost & Franchise Fee.

A smart vending machine costs around INR 1.0 – 1.5 lakhs and it is a one-time investment. You own the machine and it includes everything like a digital screen, software, dashboard, and apps as well.

You may have to pay a franchise fee which is between INR 5K-25K per vending machine.

Monthly Costs:

Refilling Partner Fee: It is around INR 10-12k per month and one partner can manage 6-12 vending machines. You can hire a refilling partner on a full-time or part-time basis depending on the number of vending machines you have.

Warehouse cost: Initially, you can use your own storeroom or storage space to save this when you have less than 10 vending machines. If you add more machines, you can rent a space to use as a warehouse which would cost you around 5000 to 6,000 per month.

SaaS Fee or Software Charges: Daalchini provides state-of-the-art technology along with its vending machines to manage and operate vending machines smoothly. Machine software costs around Rs.1000 per month.

Payment Gateway Charges: This is the cost of the various payment gateways which you will use to provide multiple payment options to your consumers like BharatPe, RazorPay, Debit/Credit cards, net banking, etc.

This cost is 1% of sales per vending machine per month.

Other costs:

  • You may have to pay Electricity and Internet connection charges at some locations. However, at most of the sites, clients provide electricity to run and operate the vending machines. The Internet can be procured at Rs.150 per month.

  • Maintenance Fee: You have to pay a fee for hardware maintenance for replacing any part of the vending machine in case of a fault or issue. Generally, this cost starts from the second or third year onwards only.

  • Insurance Fee: Vending Machine comes with a 1-year warranty and after 1 year you will have to pay an insurance fee which is roughly Rs.100 per month or Rs.1100 once a year. It may vary for different insurance service providers. Insurance covers any damage to vending machines, theft, or any liability arising due to vending machines.

With the lockdown changing our way of life, there has been a massive shift from traditional retail to smart retail. People are adopting healthier lifestyles and the demand for healthy snacks and beverages at the workplace as well as schools, colleges, etc. has increased.

This demand and potential are only going to increase in the future which is going to expand the vending machine market even more.
